In our increasingly tech-driven world, the significance of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education cannot be overemphasized. However, despite significant strides, the gender gap in STEM fields persists, particularly in communities facing socio-economic challenges.

To address this disparity and inspire young girls to pursue STEM careers, a groundbreaking initiative called Femgineers has been launched in partnership with The Sun newspaper and St Saviour’s School, Ikoyi.

The core objective of Femgineers is to ignite the passion for STEM in female students from public schools. By providing exposure to STEM subjects and potential career paths, the program aims to equip these young minds with the necessary skills to thrive in the future.

Beyond career guidance, Femgineers is dedicated to fostering creativity, problem-solving, and innovation among participants. These essential skills are crucial for success in any field, and the program seeks to empower girls to approach challenges with confidence and ingenuity.

Through this collaboration, we envision a future where girls feel empowered to explore their full potential in STEM without encountering barriers. Femgineers is committed to breaking down stereotypes and creating a level playing field for all, regardless of gender or background.

The first edition of Femgineers was held on the 5th and 6th of March at St. Saviour’s School Ikoyi and it was a great experience for the young ladies. Ten JS 2 students from Government Junior College, Ikoyi were invited to take part in practical investigations and enquiry-based activities around the theme of flight and forces.
