In today’s tech-driven world, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education is more critical than ever. Yet, a persistent gender gap, especially in underserved communities, hinders women’s participation in these vital fields. To combat this, St. Saviours School Ikoyi, under the supervision of the Head Teacher Mr Craig Heaton, launched the Femgineers initiative last year sponsored by The Neya Kalu Foundation and The Sun Newspapers and it was a great success with the young girls being inspired to do more. Femgineers aims to ignite a passion for STEM in young women from public schools, exposing them to STEM subjects and career paths, and equipping them with the skills needed to succeed in the future.

This year, St Saviours held the second edition of the Femgineers program for ten (10) school girls from Government Junior College, Ikoyi.  It was a two-day event with the theme – Flights and Forces, which was held on 6th -7th February 2025 at St. Saviours School, Ikoyi. The training and activities for these young ladies were put together and handled by the Lead Teacher, Mrs Ofoegbu and the Assisting Teacher – Mr Gray. On the second and final day, Neya Kalu, founder of The Neya Kalu Foundation addressed the school girls and encouraged them to have no limits on their dreams and to continue to challenge themselves to do big things.

Beyond career guidance, Femgineers is dedicated to fostering creativity, problem-solving, and innovation among participants. These essential skills are crucial for success in any field, and the program seeks to empower girls to approach challenges with confidence and ingenuity.

We believe this initiative will pave the way for a future where girls confidently explore the boundless possibilities within STEM, unhindered by societal limitations. The Femgineers program champions the idea that aptitude in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics knows no gender.
